Former Celtic director Brian Duffy in line for 6million bonus with watch firm

Former Celtic director Brian Duffy is clearly a man who has a knack for timing things to perfection.

And now the 65-year-old is in line for a £6million bonus for his role in the success of a luxury watch retailer.

Duffy – who is from Glasgow’s Castlemilk – is the chief executive of Watches of Switzerland, which joined the London stock market in a £647million flotation in the summer. He was granted the option of more than 2.2million free shares in the group, where he has been boss since 2014.

According to the company’s newly published annual report, he will be entitled to the shares provided he remains with the firm – which is also behind the Mappin & Webb and Goldsmiths chains – for at least two years.

The report shows that Duffy received a salary of £500,000 during the group’s latest financial year, along with a £375,000 bonus.

He studied accountancy after leaving school, worked in finance roles for Polaroid and underwear firm Playtex before joining Ralph Lauren in 2003.

In an interview recently, Duffy told how his job with the fashion brand was nearly derailed by his love for Celtic.

He skipped a job interview to watch the club play in Seville in the UEFA Cup final but went on to get a top role in the firm.

He spent nearly a decade with the fashion firm before joining Watches of Switzerland.

The lifelong Celtic fan spent four years on the Parkhead club’s board from 2010 until 2014.
